Every route here was taken the long way round.
Travel writing for people who would rather miss the train than skip the walk. Every route here was taken at least once, in the season it is written about.

01
Go once, in the season
Nothing is published here off the back of a press trip or a weekend in the wrong month. Every route on Detour was taken in the season it is written about, which is the only way to know what the weather actually does to it.
02
Name the cost
A recommendation with no number attached is a recommendation somebody else is paying for. If a stay, a ticket, or a meal is worth the detour, the page says what it came to and when the price was checked.
03
Say what did not work
Most travel writing stops at the good afternoon. Every story here says which part of the trip was a mistake, what it would take to avoid it, and when the honest answer is to skip the place entirely.
